Dads

Went to see Shorty yesterday. Gave him fair warning. "Guess who's coming to dinner?" No explosions. No lightning strikes. So I guess all is well. After, we went to my grandparents graves, then to Emmett for the other grandparents. As we were looking for the Horns, a large group (at least 40) bikers gathered to pay respects to a fallen comrade. I think it was "Sam". They parked in the middle of the road, and it's skinny anyway, walked over the grave, hugged each other, turned around and left. Held up the traffic for a good 5 minutes.
We found the Horns after a little work, then drove right to the Berglunds'. Paul and Wanda had left flowers.
Called my dad and spoke with him for a few. He was feeling a little edgy about the surgery, and a little testy too. To be expected. My aunt and uncle were in Boise on their way to Washington, so mom and dad were thinking about going to dinner with them. They ended up not going as mom's blood sugar was too high and she felt like heck.
This afternoon, we are going to Gale's for a BBQ. Someone else cooking, yeah!
Have to go fix breakfast with Richard. We have a system. One cooks eggs, one does toast. So you all have a great Memorial Day. Home workout day, too.

The Reunfication of Ma and Pa

Called Potter's today in conference with Vets Cemetery. Dates and times are pretty much open during the week of Cherry Festival. (June 17-19)We figure the time should be around 11 a.m. so as to not be so hot. Our options are: we can have a small memorial at the shelter where we had dad's (in which case we cannot go to the niche) or we can have a small get together at the niche, say whatever, at which time mom's ashes would be placed with dad's and the cover placed by the attendants. That would be it, done. That's it in a nutshell. Fast. Sweet. Simple.
I would like your input ASAP as I need to tell Potter's on the Tuesday (June 1st).

It'a Official. He WON!

27 votes to 9. A landslide victory. For Letha anyway. 10 votes were wasted by a write in not eligible. So added together, out of 50 households on the sewer, 46 people voted. About 1/2. Now the fun starts. First meeting is June 8.

Election Day!!!!!!

It's here. Wish it were over sooner, but we will know by 8:30 tonight or so.
Wish Richard luck.
Bye.

Election Day in 3 days and counting down

And the craziness continues. Several weeks ago, we found some voting booths (of all things) on the Musick Auction. We bought 8 of them for 5 bucks! Sold them to the Letha Sewer President ( he was impressed, hah) and they will use them for the election. They are really handy machines. Very plain, 4 collapsible legs, and a light with cord, 2 folding sides and the whole thing folds up into a briefcase-like container. Well, the things have a punch (hanging chads) system in the bottom of the case, and all thought there would have to be an insert made to make it flat for us to use. We said we would get a piece of plywood or whatever for the "judge" to make the table tops cuz the resident pain-the-ass handy man hadn't done that yet and the guy in charge of the election was panicking. But it seems the makers thought of everything. The bottom comes out and flips over for a flat surface! Before we discovered this jewel of info, the resident "Chicken Little" cried fowl (hahahaha) about us setting the things up at the voting site. We had no intentions of doing that, just get the surface board to make it flat, which is a moot point now. Talk about petty shit. This place is really full of it. Richard has a saying he taught the kids early on, "Don't sweat the petty shit, and don't pet the sweaty shit." Good sound advice for those who cry wolf. Are We Having Fun Yet???
This past 2 weeks, we have been at the county office learning about what the district could do and what it could not do. Every day a new challenge.
Just this past Wednesday, the local gossip chain has informed us of a secret. If Rich wins the election, the board will ask for the resignation of a board member and then appoint Lee as a "new" member. This was told to the local town crier who was asked to keep it a secret. Like that was gonna happen. Less than 2 minutes after learning this "secret", we were told. We figure this is just BS to keep us off on some other tangent. WE just laughed. Small town politics.
time to go work out.

Free Range Chickens or The Little White Hen who Could

Last winter, a person moved out from down the road. They left 2 goats, some dogs, cat, and some chickens. Well, the local constable gathered up all the animals (Noah's Ark anyone?) but the chickens, they couldn't catch them. Long story short, all but two did not make it through the winter. The two that did, rooster and hen, where all over the place. Still unable to catch them. They could fly and roosted in the trees. The first time Rich mowed the back 4o, 2 two weeks ago or so, he told me about a little white hen on a nest. He had seen next door neighbors trying to catch bird, so he thought it was theirs. Phone call says "No". The little white hen left several messy spots on their patio while eating the cat's food. "We don't want her." I told Richard the Lloyds don't want her and could not catch her, so he announces that he knows how to catch chickens and to watch this. He sneaks up on her from behind, (nest is in the corner of back fence), with covering in both hands. Chicken too smart for him and he fails to gather her in too. She had over a dozen eggs in her nest. We logically leave her alone to hatch babies and tell neighbors about plan. When she is nesting, we will try to catch her again and take her around the corner to a man who has egg layers. He can have her. She survived through the winter, she sat through all the horrible weather last week, wind, snow flurries, rain, more wind, frost. We looked out there every morning, "chicken still there." Sunday morning, chicken still there, a few minutes later, we hear a gun shot. Went outside to look, no chicken on nest but saw next door neighbor. I asked if he got what he shot at. Yes, white chicken was no more. Ka blooey! Close range shot blew up chicken. Nothing left. Now eggs in nest are feeding the cats. No more free range chickens at our house.

Happy Mothers' Day Y'All

Telling all moms out there "HAPPY MOTHERS' DAY" today because I plan to be out of the house all day tomorrow. Yard calls, so Sunday as a day of rest means the rest of the yard needs care. My grass is spotty, the weeds are invading, and the hoses need patching. Mowed yesterday, and only in a few spots could you tell the mower had been there. There was enough oddball spots, that I couldn't wait to mow. Now, I am watering the heck out of it so I can do this again next week.

We also put up our solar lights that had been stashed for 3 years. Rich put the holders on the fence posts, I cleaned the lights, and we turned them on this morning. Hope they recharge and work ok.

Spoke to Ellen. She and Leo are extremely busy, so all we could do was visit. It was a nice visit.

Rich and a neighbor went over to Bob's (Judy) house, Letha School, and mowed for him. He has stayed in the house most since Judy passed. He must have heard the mowers going, cuz Rich said he came out and started his mower and helped finish the job. It took all three of the mowers to do that in a timely manner. Big yard.

We are still working out daily. Rich is down to 218!!!! Yeah Rich!!!

Campaign still on track. I'm not sure if I want Rich to win or not. Damned if we do.....you know the rest. If he doesn't, well we will cross that bridge too.

Rich changed the truck over to Amsoil about 3 weeks ago. Mileage already improving. We can tell by the computer in the ceiling. Sure is nice ride. Only thing it doesn't have is an auto tranny. Leather seats, w/heaters!! Best thing ever invented for cool mornings. This is the first step in our goal. Getting out of Letha!!! by the time we can go, we'll be too old!

My dad is going in for surgery again. this time, for a spleenectomy (?) and removing the tail of his pancreas. Tumors found, don't know status of them. Won't until after. He has to have three vacines before surgery, wait 4 weeks, then see surgeon again to set date. Soo much fun. I went with him to the last appt. I asked the dr. to explain briefly. He got a little testy about me asking. Said I should have at other appts. I told him (nicely) that I had not known of this situation as Dad was not exactly forth coming with info. He sat down and gave me a briefing. I'm a little worried for Dad. His age and health are problems. One doc put it like this."The body on this model is out of warranty." That about says it all.

Have a good day everyone. Catch you on the flip side!
